The bq25570 is a highly integrated energy harvesting nanopower management solution that is ideally suited to meet the specific needs of ultra low power applications. This product is designed to efficiently acquire and manage microwatt (μW) to milliwatt (mW) levels of power generated from a variety of different DC sources such as photovoltaic (solar), thermoelectric generators, and piezoelectric modules.
The bq25570 is the first such device to implement a high-efficiency boost charger with a nanopower buck converter for products and systems where power and operation are critical for wireless sensor networks (WSNs).
The design of the bq25570 begins with a DC/DC boost converter/charger that requires only microwatts of power to start working. Once activated, the boost charger is capable of efficiently extracting energy from a low voltage output collector such as a thermoelectric generator (TEG) or a single or dual solar panel.
The boost converter can be started up to VIN as low as 330mV, and once activated, can continuously acquire energy at VIN as low as 100mV.
The bq25570 also performs a programmable maximum power point tracking sampling network to optimize power transfer into the device. This module is set to 80%.
The bq25570 is designed to be flexible to support a wide range of energy storage components. The energy source from which the energy harvester extracts energy is often not fixed or varies over time. Typically, the system will require some type of energy storage component, such as a rechargeable battery, oversized capacitor, or conventional capacitor.
The energy storage component will make a specific constant power available when the system requires it. The energy storage component also enables the system to handle any peak current that cannot be directly from the input source. To prevent damage to the customer's energy storage.
